About Better Earthling

Greetings, fellow earthlings! My name is Cherry* and I live in a rural Texas spot on the planet. Being so far away from a bigger city, access to things like recycling, compostable take-out containers and goods for purchase in bulk is extremely limited within my community.

But nonetheless, I am striving to be a better inhabitant of this planet. It’s the only one we’ve got.

Like the Tick, the Earth is where most of us keep all of our stuff. But it’s apparent our stuff is becoming a problem. There’s a mass of plastic garbage twice the size of my home state floating in the Pacific. Dead whales and more are washing up with stomachs full of plastic.

How long will it be before we are all choking on our pollution?

I am no crusader. I use plenty of electricity and drive a car. I’m sure my carbon footprint is horrifying. Yet, I plan to try to define it and then shrink it. And share the whole process here. This is me, one person, taking Teddy Roosevelt’s advice and doing what I can, with what I have, where I am. I hope you’ll join me.

*For real, I’m named after one of my mom’s school friends.
